Sailing Istria Region Located in the westernmost part of Croatia, bordering Slovenia and Italy, Istria is the largest peninsula in Croatia and is one of the best-developed regions in the country for tourism.

Istria is a peninsula full of surprises, whose multifaceted history and cultural and natural riches can easily entertain even the most demanding tourists and enthusiasts, including sailors approaching from the sea.

The island interior features miniature fairy tale locations and green hilly scenery, its western indented coastline is full of towns lined one after another like pearls on a necklace, while the neglected eastern coastline is characterized by bluffs and lush vegetation. Three natural jewels, the Brijuni National Park, the Premantura and the Lim bay nature reserves, form part of the Istrian mosaic and make for ideal destinations for your seaside vacation.

The sailing season runs from April to October. Regattas in Istria are held almost throughout the whole year, from late February till the beginning of December.

Opatija, a place of mild climate and a hundred years of tourism, represents the ideal starting point to explore other Kvarner islands because, apart from being at the heart of the Kvarner bay, it is well connected with other larger European centres. The special microclimate of this place, characterised by calm seas and a lot of sunshine, will make sailors stay moored longer at this beautiful tourist town.

The surrounding Kvarner sea is best known for the islands Krk, Cres, Rab and Pag, so in good weather conditions do sail towards the eastern shores of these islands, getting to know the surreal power of nature reflected in their northern shores shaped by the strong winter wind (bura). After leaving the imposing Krk bridge behind, sailors will also find safe haven in the deeply indented Soline bay, apart from the picturesque little town of Vrbnik. Known for former saltpans, medicinal mud and the safe berth Klimno where even gourmets can find local specialties suited to their preferences.
